That’s according to West Australian Premier Mark McGowan.
WA produces one-third of the world’s lithium supply but the state is expanding that share dramatically, with more than $2 billion worth of Lithium projects in various stages of completion.
Western Australian Premier Mark McGowan says he is excited about the opportunities the global shift to electric vehicles offers to WA’s lithium miners, who supply a critical ingredient in most modern batteries.
And why shouldn’t he be excited? A Tesla Model S electric vehicle uses more Lithium in its car battery than 10,000 smart phones.
“WA is in a prime position to capitalise on the growing world market for lithium,” Mr McGowan said.
More than 1000 West Australians now work for lithium miners, and that number will triple over the next few years as demand for Lithium intensifies.
